"Expressions by Emily"
My
name is Emily and I live in a small town in Northwest Louisiana.
I was born here and have lived here my entire life. I am the oldest of
four children and the only girl. I lost one of my brothers when he was 30 years
old, but still have two wonderful brothers and a host of nieces and nephews. I
am very blessed to still have both my mother and daddy with me and they both
enjoy good health. They have been
so wonderful to me throughout my life and have been a big help to me over the
years.
I am happily married, for the second time, to a wonderful man
who is my “soul mate.” We have
three sons, a daughter and seven grandchildren between the two of us.
I have worked at the same job for the past 41 years and am looking
forward to retiring in a year or so. (God willing.)
I
became a Christian when I was 19 years old, but over the years had gotten
away from the Lord. I went to
church, but not on a regular basis and I didn’t have God as number one in my
life. Back in the latter part of 2000, the business in which I work
began to undergo some major changes and I was simply unable to cope with it. I
stayed despondent and upset most of the time. I went to the doctor and he ran
test after test, but they could not find anything physically wrong with me.
Finally in August of 2001, I had gotten to the point that I could not
continue as I had been going and I humbly got down on my knees and prayed to God
for help. I prayed that He would give me the strength to cope with all the
changes at work, but most of all, I prayed that He would forgive me for my sins
and especially for my sin of falling away from Him. I am living proof of God’s
wonderful mercy and grace because He lovingly welcomed me back into His family
and forgave me all my sins.
A couple of months
later, I was sitting out on my back porch before dawn looking at the moon and
the millions of stars, and marveling at all the beauty God had created. Words suddenly filled my head and I got up and went to my
computer and wrote my first poem “My Light at Dawn”. Since then, I have written many poems about God’s love for
us and His grace and mercy.
When I can’t think of what I want to say, I simply go sit outside and
pray that God will give me the words, and He does.
I
started my web site as an avenue of sharing what God has done for me. My hope is
that someone who might not know Jesus as his or her personal Savior might come
to accept Him as a result of my sharing what He has done for me and what He can
and will do for them. God also brought into my life a
wonderful woman, Ruth Ann Mahaffey, who does all of my web pages and
graphics. Because of her hard work
and her loving kindness to me, I have been able to make my poems available to
others.
God
loves and cares for each of us. His
love for mankind is so great that He sacrificed His Son, Jesus, for our sins.
We, as sinners, deserved to die on that cross, but Jesus took our place
and bore our sins, and through the spilling of His blood, all our sins were
blotted out. Through His death and
resurrection, we sinners now have the opportunity of being reconciled to a Holy
God. Jesus lives! You, too,
can live eternally with Him, and all you have to do is accept Him as your
personal Savior. Ask Him into your heart today, because tomorrow is not
guaranteed and life is but a breath in the eons of time.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and
only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NIV)
